Weight loss with the Expert “AskDamz”

Damola “Damz” Ladejobi of AskDamz, is a weight management, health and fitness consultant who started her business on the heels of a personal struggle with overweight.

It all started when she suffered an acute G E R D (Gastroesophogeal Reflux Disease), a digestive disorder that affects the lower esophageal sphincter (LES), the ring of muscle between the esophagus and stomach, making the stomach’s content back up into the esophagus.

Following the 3 endoscopies, doctors advised Damz to lose weight as they could not figure out the cause of her ailment. After several unsuccessful attempts at weight loss through fad diets, Damz decided to do a lot of reading which opened her eyes to the potency of healthy eating. She began practicing this and portion control, and in 10 months, she had achieved her target of getting to 70kg from 105kg.

Today, Damz is helping people achieve their weight loss and fitness goals with her AskDamz platform. Her company helps people “build a healthy lifestyle” because “a healthy lifestyle is key to achieving your weight/body goals.”

AskDamz prides herself in being able to give her clients “access to information, tips and tricks on building a healthier lifestyle” and she does this by, among others, publishing nutrition tips as well as relevant health information regularly on her blog.

We had an interview session with weight loss  expert Ask Damz and it was focused on weight loss tricks and eating for pleasure.

1. What’s the most important piece of advice you can give to someone that wants to lose weight?
Know thyself, know what works for you. It’s never a one size fits all approac

2. What about diet?
I actually don’t refer to it as diet; it’s more of a healthy lifestyle. Eat healthily, follow the 80%:20% rule
3. Why do you think so many people struggle to lose weight?
It is simple. They don’t know what really works for them, as I said earlier know thyself. That allows you to know what works for you and what doesn’t. Do not jump on the bandwagon which is what a lot of people do.
4. What would you say to people who are feeling disheartened after putting back on the weight that they had lost?
HERE IS THE QUESTION TO ASK, did you lose weight in a sustainable and realistic way? If it was more of a lifestyle change then it is very unlikely to go back to the old unhealthy habit.
5. How can women tone up?
Be physical, exercise often. Like I’ll always say DITCH THE ELEVATOR, USE THE STAIRS!
6. How do you suggest new mums get back into shape?
Make healthier food choices, eat portion controlled meals, exercise and be patient with the process.
7. How do you draw the line between gentle nutrition and becoming restrictive?
It becomes restrictive when you have too many don’ts. Don’t eat this, don’t eat that, you cannot drink this……………
8. How do you handle the ‘Treat yourself ‘mentality?
Follow the 80%:20% rules. That is eating healthy meals 80% of the time and 20% for your cravings (cheat meal
9. How do you derive pleasure from eating?
Being a foodie, the thought of food alone is pleasurable to me
10. Can you shed more light on ‘hedonic hunger’?
Hedonic hunger is the crave to eat for pleasure even when you are not hungry, and this will eventually lead to being overweight/obese. To help overcome hedonic hunger, choose healthier options for snacks/meals.
