The Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi has charged the Commissioner of Police in the State to fish out the cops responsible for the mass shooting of FUOYE students.
It was earlier reported that a large number of FUOYE students came out to protest concerning the lack of basic amenities such as light and water, in their school for years. One Twitter user who is a graduate of the Institution confirmed that during her 5 year stay in the school, she never witnessed electricity or water in the school premises.
The Governor said e had directed the CP to “urgently commence an investigation into the circumstances that led to the unfortunate shooting incident with a view to identifying possible culprits within and outside the force.”
The peaceful protest ended rather violently with the preventable deaths of a 300 level student of Biology Education, Okonufa Joseph and a 100 level student of Crop Science and Horticulture, Dada Kehinde.
Rumour has it and even eye witnesses confirmed that the students came out to peacefully protest, but the Wife of the Governor, Mrs Erelu Bisi Fayemi, ordered the policemen to start shooting sporadically, which they did and ended up fatally shooting the two students.
The National Youth Council of Nigeria also appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to look into the killings of the FUOYE Students. They asked Buhari to set up a panel of enquiry to investigate what led to the arbitrary killings and what led to the subsequent closure of the Institution.
