Freshman Class/ Ones to watch in the Nigerian Music space

This year 2019 can arguably be described as one of the best years for the Nigerian music Industry. With the release of some really wild albums out there such as Burna’s African Giant, and the fact that many of our major artistes are signing deals with international record labels, the Nigerian music scene will soon become a force to be reckoned with not only in Africa, but internationally too.

Noteworthy too is the rise to fame of so many newbies whose singles can be categorised with singles from old players in the industry.

These ones are artistes whom have been inducted and groomed by their much more successful , and we believe that because of this solid foundation, we should definitely be on the lookout for these freshmen.

We have the likes of REMA, who was discovered by ace music producer and CEO of Mavin Records, Don Jazzy with his hit single, dumebi. The song is contagious and definitely has mad beats, but social media titans have described it as “childish”, obviously because Rema is still in his teens. It probably may not have meaningful lyrics, but most of our Naija songs do not have meaning either, we just go with the flow.

Another artiste to watch out for is Joeboy, with his hit single, baby making waves everywhere in the country. You definitely cannot attend a party without dancing to this song. Signed to Mr Eazi’s “em pawa” Africa, Joeboy’s catchy tune and distinct style has helped keep his songs on top of the charts for the past few months.

We also have Fireboy DML, who surprised us with his smash hit that Nigerians couldn’t get enough of, Jealous. Recently signed on to Olamide’s YBNL record label, the wavemker has steady been churning out sweet tunes that will sure keep him in the industry for a long time.

Also not forgetting the likes of Terri, whose mentor is Wizkid and is also related to accomplished artiste, Tekno. He was first noticed when he delivered a superb verse on Wizkid’s hit single “Soco”, he has also gone ahead to release his own songs titled “on me” and “Shuu”.

Peruzzi may not necessarily be described as a freshman, but he is definitely having the best year so far in his musical career. Throughout last year, he also showcased his talent by featuring on hit songs like “Amaka” with Tuface and also “Aje” with the DMW gang. This year, he wowwed us with his love song “Majesty” and “Nana”. He is definitely one to watch out for.

Other artists whom we are expecting to see much more of in the tears to come are Lyta, Martinzfeelz, Chinko Ekun, Oladips, Bhary Jhay and others.

Please drop your comments below and add those rookies whom you think have done a good job this year and definitely have more up their sleeves for the subsequent years.
