Lockdown to be lifted temporarily on the 4th of May

Yesterday, President Muhammadu Buhari addressed Nigerians in a “press conference” and gave new updates on the COVID-19 situation in the country.

In summary, he announced that after consulting the NCDC and other prominent medical consultants, the lockdown on Lagos, Abuja and Ogun states would be lifted on the 4th of May. This is because, according to him an economy like Nigeria’s cannot sustain a continued lockdown. There would however be restrictions.

      1. There would be a daily curfew from 8pm to 6pm
      2.  Non essential Inter State travel remains suspended as agreed on by the governors of the 36 states in the Federation.
      3.  Religious and social gatherings remain prohibited.
      4. Wearing of face masks in public is now compulsory.

We do not know how long this would last, but we are admonished to continue maintaining social distancing and personal hygiene by frequently washing our hands or using hand sanitizers, coughing or sneezing into your elbow and cleaning all surfaces in our homes and workplaces.
