Gen. Buba Marwa Marwa, the Chairman of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has revealed that intending couples will also undergo drugs test before their marriage.
Mr. Marwa said this while speaking at the yearly Ogidi-Ela Day cultural celebration in the Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi, on Saturday, 19th of June, 2021.
The NDLEA, according to Marwa, is doing everything possible to meet up with the presidential mandate to curb the use of illicit drugs in the country.
The NDLEA boss said that in the nearest future, a drug will be mandatory for anyone seeking employment into any government, industry, or ministry, admission into a tertiary institution; and intending couples.
“Be reminded ladies and gentlemen, that, President Muhammadu Buhari is resolute in his new thrust to purge the country of illicit drugs.
“And the NDLEA is doing everything possible to meet up with the presidential mandate to clean up our streets, towns, and cities.
“That is why we have put in place programs with far-reaching effects, one of which is drug integrity test.
“In the nearest future, anyone seeking employment into any government, industry or ministry, admission into a tertiary institution; or even getting married must first have to do a drug test,” he said.
Mr. Marwa also stated that intending couples have always had to do one test or the other to ensure that they have a successful marriage and the inclusion of a drug test should not sound weird or absurd.
